Sunset Land

blue-bus-cala-conta-ibiza.jpg
I think this is without a doubt the number one place to watch the sunset on Ibiza.
At a blue bus parked on the most amazing point of earth I have seen…mystic Islands
looking back to us on a mystic Island and we sit and watch our life force set into
the sea for another day…and we do it often. I put the sound here when I am not working
and it is the best set I could ever hope to play on a car stereo and this year people come.
And the fact that after four years this Bus has had it’s time and Ingo Zen has let it go makes
it all the more strong and everyone is coming here to enjoy a little Ibiza Institution…
well for me anyway.Goodbye to the blue bus of Cala Conta Ibiza…and to our right the nude
people on the naked beach say…Ole!
cala-contita-ibizasunset.jpg
Once the sun loooses it’s juice they cover up so it’s looks quiet today, they go up and dress.
Skin soaked with rays of light it’s time to light one up and enjoy the show…
Cause thats how we roll at the blue bus on Cala Conta Point.Ibiza. Earth 2010.
The Island is our cradle and we say ooooo as the music fades to a whisper.
cradle-of-life.jpg
I already miss the blue bus, in a funny way I love it and I always will. I slept on
this point for three weeks one year, three weeks of bliss I will never forget.
Thanks Ingo Zen you funny silly strange being you…
like a moth to the flame we are drawn here to this place

The green heart of Ibiza

greenheart-ibiza.jpg
In the hills of this Island there is a place dedicated to Sustainable living and becoming
organic beings. Here people come together to live in a community some for a short time
and others stay the season.Sundays they open the Cassita Verde to the rest of the island,
and the ones that can find it are the ones that are meant to be there.Hippies and people with
sweet sweet hearts, opening up to everybody. Just follow the green heart.
sweetheart-ibiza.jpg
The Island calls many to it’s shores and apart from the party tourists which IS a big part of Ibiza,
many artists and musicians come here to open themselves creatively and to share themselves
as well. Last night I came in out of the rain and was invited to sit at a table where the talk was
of things cosmic of things human and of things music. These talks are common place on Ibiza
but I was talking to a man so humble so beautiful and so out there, also common place in Ibiza.
Meet my new friend Rico Loops, his name I had heard, his songs I have but to see his work and
his spirit… well words will not do the vibe here last night justice. Rico uses his voice to create
loops and sounds and he lays down a sonic soundscape completly in the moment.
rico-loops.jpg
Under a heavy sky behind which a bright full moon was shining we went on a journey together,
those who made the journey out to the Ashram went on another journey entirely with Rico.
At the end of his set we were so moved together that a full minute of silence happened,
just the waves crashing on the shore one after the other after the other after the other.
If your reading this and you think a trip to Ibiza is on the cards, Do the big clubs yes sure
they are amazing but leave yourself enough time to feel the energy of this place and go
find out some more about the music that is here. You will never ever regret it.
So many come and just run run run from party to party, sunset to sunset. There is so much
more to Ibiza than you have heard about. Indeed the more I come here the more she gives
to me. And this year I have so much, the music is fantastic. I am feeling a real Balearic
Spirit of days gone by, just simmering away beneath the surface of the comercialism and
am waiting for a big return to love and feeling of the Balearic spirit. I am coming back one
day loaded up with music and with feelings in me just waiting to explode. Love and Light X

Sunset at the Ashram Ibiza

theashram-ibiza.jpg
September in Ibiza. Clouds come the breezes blow but there is still magic sunsets to see and
the Sunset Ashram at Cala Conte is the best place to watch one. Today I play the soundtrack.
djshanesunsetasrham-ibiza.jpg
The Ashram is a little further out than the sunset strip in town and so it has a more underground
feel, more local and more people in the know musically.Today is no different as I am joined by
Jon Sa Trinxa who stops by to share the sunset with me. And it goes like this Jon sets it up with
the James Bond theme and I follow with ‘Belfast’, a classic sunset. And the moment it goes down…
the-moment.jpg
we are mesmerised, as always it is a magic moment in time. Music and the sun, the moment is now.
Into the night the beats continue and lots of music people show up so it’s a pleasure to see the nods
of approval with each track that I get right. Kenneth Bager comes on late as a little surprise and he
drops two classic Balearic tracks of the year. ‘Campo de Flores’ by Valentin Huedo from Cafe del Mar
who is in the audience and Kenneths own track ‘Bolero’ which is for many the track of the summer.
And this is the view from the decks… Ocean all around, magic islands in the distance and beyond…
our sunset.

A hot and heady day is a perfect day for the beach and Sa Trinxa is the perfect beach bar,
A long stroll to the end of the beach is a shack that has been there many a year and the
DJ has been there many a year as well. In fact both are Ibiza institutions and a visit to the Island
would not be complete without a visit to see and hear them. Jon Sa Trinxa, (yes he is named
after the bar) is a great beach DJ with the perfect record collection but for today he has stepped
aside to let me have an afternoon behind the decks. And this is what it looks like from them.
viewfrom-the-dj-booth.jpg
People from all over the world congregate here to swim and get some sun, so you get a great mix
of like minded souls, some with clothes and some with out, hippies, superstars, Musicians,DJ’s and
record label bosses. And by the late afternoon they’re all getting their groove on with toes in the sand.
And behind the decks is a balearic conference as so many people stop by to chat and find some music
from the man. Master and apprentice chilling in the spot.
masterapprenticesatrinxa.jpg
After my set there I am flushed from the heat and the bass, so a quick dash into the sea where
I stay for the remainder floating as the tunes float over my head and out to sea…perfect.
Why oh why can we not have a place like this in Australia?
Oh well like a hippie with an ice cream I am in a happy place. X

life in the hills of Ibiza

ibiza-hippiebutterfly.jpg
Sometimes in life something comes to transform us which allows us to move forward.
I feel like this now and so I am thankful to be able to retreat into the hills, to the top
of one actually…this is a million dollar escape from the craziness below in the towns
and from the craziness in my mind. The million dollar villa where I still need candles
and an Icebox. The wind in the pines and the occasional farmers shout the only sounds
to break my meditation. I am only a thought away though from the dance below but for
this week silence was my journey.
can-canto.jpg
September here is a beautiful time, less crowds and the Dj’s have done their big work
and so they are also more relaxed and the ridiculous heat of August has chilled slightly.
A good time to come to Ibiza I have decided. More to enjoy. Next week the mission is
to find the best beach but first….back to the music…
The weekend readies itself for us to prepare ourself and the music again is the mission,
the way forward and the way of the present, and a busy one awaits so I am ready.
Pacha and two sunsets to get into. Info on gig page.
Now I know I go on and on to my friends about this but this is my drink here in Ibiza,
Hierbas Ibicencas, a herbal elixer made from plants found here on the Island, you can
buy it in bars but this one is made by farmers and only if you know where to ask.
A glass is ready and waiting for my good friends.
The sun rises the sun sets and life is passing through our fingertips like the wind in the trees.

The first 24

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

I step off the Aeroplane into the heady salt air, hurried into a waiting merc with good friends.
Drive quickly up the road, park car, walk along the long beach and slowly the sound is building.
The bass is first then the fire then the laughter then the deepness arrives, it builds it crescendos,
and it goes boom….hands go in the air and I am behind the decks with Sasha… way to arrive Man!
This Is Ibiza and they love every second of the set, pure bliss from the Function 1’s on the beach.
sashaonthebeach.jpg
Next day time to arrive in another way to another Ibiza that I love just as much… sunset Ibiza.
heavenly-sunsetcalaconte.jpg
A more spiritual existence that goes hand in hand with the hedonistic party times of last night…
Yin and Yang. Space and tranquility comes and gin clear waters to swim in.
So it is really a contasting island of experiences here in Ibiza, you can find all that you need.
And for me in particluar the thing that ties all this together is the music, always the music.
Music for the body and music for the soul…This is my ‘Real Ibiza’
And it is also blessed with amazing things to eat…like these fresh figs, my entire diet on day one.
figs.jpg
And so here I go….searching for the balearic heartbeat…Ibiza Island 2010.

The day begins in IBiZa
